Assignments for the first two classes

We will cover the following material in the first two classes:

First class: read pages 1 through 30 in the casebook.
Second class: Through page 69 in the casebook.

Required Books: Texas Deceptive Trade Practices -- Cases & Materials, 2005 (Alderman)

Four questions we will discuss constantly:

• What does the statute say? (i.e. this is a class in which you must actually read the statute)
• How does current law different from pre-1995 version?
• How can we apply the DTPA (plus all the other law we know) to the benefit of our client - whether plaintiff or defendant?
• What policy considerations drive the law, i.e. why is the law the way it is and why is it changing?

Students will be called on randomly during the first two classes.
